Assumptions & warnings
- Extra material allowance: 10%
- Depth and product yield are project inputs, not universal recommendations.
- info: The purchasing quantity was rounded upward and is greater than the calculated requirement.
Technical details, sources & version
- SI and customary length, area, and volume unit definitionsexact definition
The engine normalizes dimensions to metres and volume to cubic metres before display conversion.
- Rectangular-prism volume relationshipmathematical relationship
Each measured bed is normalized length multiplied by width multiplied by depth.
- User-selected common depth presetuser configurable assumption
A preset is only an entry shortcut; it is not a landscaping recommendation.
- User-configured extra material allowanceuser configurable assumption
The calculator does not recommend a universal allowance percentage.
- User-selected purchasing basisuser configurable assumption
Bulk purchasing basis and supplier increment are selected by the user.
- User or supplier-configured bulk purchasing incrementuser configurable assumption
Bulk quantities round upward only when an explicit increment is supplied.
- User-entered package volumemanufacturer specification
Package yield is product-specific and is only used when supplied from the selected product.
- User-entered package coverage at stated depthmanufacturer specification
Coverage is converted to volume only when the selected product’s coverage depth is also entered.
- Whole-package purchasing round-upmathematical relationship
The package order quantity is rounded upward to whole packages.
- User-entered material unit costuser configurable assumption
Optional cost uses the actual selected purchasing quantity; no supplier or live price is used.

Method
The engine reuses shared rectangular project-volume geometry, applies your selected extra-material allowance, then shows cubic-yard, cubic-metre, or user-supplied package purchasing quantities separately.
Worked example
A 20 ft by 12 ft bed at the 4 in preset contains about 2.96 yd³. With a 10% allowance, the final requirement is 3.26 yd³ before any selected purchasing rounding.
Measurement guidance
Split L-shaped, stepped, or separate beds into rectangles. Measure inside the intended material boundary and enter the project depth you plan to install.
