Manual roofing takeoff
Turn measured roof planes into a material purchasing quantity.
Enter each simple rectangular plane you measured, its rise-over-run pitch, and coverage from the selected product package. The calculation makes the slope effect and package round-up visible.

Add the horizontal rectangular footprints you measured for each roof plane.
11.148364800000001 m² = 11.148364800000001 m²= 11.15 m²For each plane, multiply horizontal footprint by √(1 + (rise ÷ run)²) to account for its stated rise-per-run pitch.
11.148364800000001 m² × 1.118033988749895 = 12.464250765382927 m²= 12.46 m²Apply the extra material allowance you selected to the calculated sloped surface area.

Assumptions & warnings
- Package coverage: 20 ft²
- Extra material allowance: 10%
- info: Package coverage is product-specific and comes from your selected product. This calculator does not assume bundles per roofing square.
- info: This takeoff uses only the rectangular planes and pitches you enter. It does not infer hips, valleys, dormers, ridges, penetrations, overlaps, or unentered roof areas.
- warning: Planning-only material takeoff. It does not provide roof access, safety, condition, structural, weather, permit, installation, flashing, fastener, underlayment, or code-compliance advice.
- info: The purchasing quantity is rounded upward to whole packages.
Technical details, sources & version
- SI and customary length and area unit definitionsexact definition
Dimensions are normalized to metres and surface areas to square metres before display conversion.
- User-entered horizontal rectangular roof planesuser configurable assumption
The calculator uses only separately measured rectangular planes and does not infer roof geometry from an address, image, map, footprint, or unentered area.
- Horizontal rectangular area relationshipmathematical relationship
Each plane footprint is normalized horizontal run multiplied by horizontal span.
- Rise-over-run slope factormathematical relationship
For each plane, sloped surface area equals horizontal area × √(1 + (rise ÷ run)²). The entered rise-over-run pitch is one transparent input method, not a universal measurement method.
- Roofing square conventionindustry convention
A roofing square is displayed as 100 square feet of roof surface for planning context; package coverage remains a separate user-entered product specification.
- User-entered roofing package coveragemanufacturer specification
Package or bundle coverage is product-specific. The calculator does not assume a universal bundles-per-square relationship.
- User-configured extra material allowanceuser configurable assumption
The calculator does not recommend a universal allowance percentage or calculate hidden complexity waste.
- Whole-package purchasing round-upmathematical relationship
The calculated package requirement is rounded upward to avoid under-ordering.
- User-entered price per packageuser configurable assumption
Optional material cost is based on whole packages to purchase; no live pricing is used.

Method
The engine sums the horizontal rectangular footprints you enter, multiplies each by its stated rise-over-run slope factor, applies the selected extra material allowance, divides by selected product-package coverage, and rounds upward to whole packages.
Pitch and roof area
For the starting 6/12 plane, the horizontal footprint is 120 ft². The slope factor is 1.12, so the calculated roof surface area is 134.16 ft². “Roofing squares” are shown as a 100 ft² planning convention, while package coverage stays tied to your actual product.
Scope
This is a manual-geometry material takeoff. It does not measure roofs from addresses, photographs, maps, satellite imagery, or building footprints, and it does not calculate ancillary roofing components.
Planning notice
This tool estimates quantities only. It does not provide roof-access or safety instructions, structural conclusions, roof-condition assessment, weather or wind design, permit guidance, installation guidance, or code-compliance claims.
